(Dallas.CityRegions.Com, June 30, 2015 ) Lewisville, Texas -- Sancho and Lola's Closet is a new line of premium pet products committed to supporting dog rescue organizations. Founder, President, Lynette Cano-Aguirre was inspired to start this company in 2014 by her two German Shorthair Pointers she adopted from Texas GSP Rescue.
She adopted Sancho, her first GSP, in 2011. "Sancho" is a Spanish slang word which means 'a younger lover a woman takes while her husband is away'. "It's a term my mother always used in jest about needing help around the house," says Aguirre. Sancho, who still suffers from PTSD after being severely abused, cowers into submission at any loud sudden movements and trembles when he meets new people. Sancho loves to play with other dogs, so in 2014, Aguirre and her husband decided to adopt a second GSP. "I attended one of those rescue 'meet-n-greets' and fell in love with a young female GSP who did not stop running the whole day. I decided a suitable name for her would be "Lola," from the 90's movie "Run Lola Run." She was found by the rescue very emaciated and infested with heartworms. It took us a year to get her from 38 to 55lbs. She did not seem to suffer from the type of horrific physical abuse as Sancho, but it was obvious she was starved for attention and food. She is not aggressive towards people, but if you touch her by surprise, she jumps and will nip at you as a reflex. So probably good she did not end up at a home with small children."
It takes a lot of patience and love to socialize dogs that have been mistreated or neglected, so many dogs with dispositions like Sancho and Lola, have a hard time finding their 'forever home.' Most people would rather start fresh with a new puppy or adopt a dog that was not mistreated. Unable to take on more dogs at the present time, Aguirre decided she was going to come up with a creative way to help her local dog rescues: "There is an actual closet in our home where we keep everything dog-related for easy access-- treats, shampoo, towels, nail clippers etc---have always gone into what we call "Sancho and Lola's Closet." Since she spent a lot of time researching the best treats and toys for her dogs, it made sense to work with this concept. Her vision manifested into Sancho & Lola's Closet, a company that sources and packages premium products for dogs and donates part of the proceeds to the dog rescues they have partnered with.
They currently have one product available. It is a grass-fed bully or ‘pizzle stick' made from cows in the Midwest. "When I first started contacting manufacturers, the easiest route for me to get started would have been to get treats from China and South America, where I could have sourced them for half the price. However, after a lot of research on the dangers of treats from other countries and conducting focus groups with consumers I considered my target market, I decided that in order to be in alignment with our goal to provide safe dog treats, I would have to source from ranches within the U.S. Grass-fed beef is a lot healthier than corn-fed and this is what educated consumers are seeking for themselves as well as their pets." Right now we have partnered with Texas GSP Rescue and The Pointer Project, because these were an obvious fit for us, but as we grow, our goal is to include rescue organizations that our supporters recommended to us."
